I have taught third grade language arts at Hamilton Elementary School in Columbus, Ohio for four years and sixth grade in the same district for three years. Before coming to Hamilton, I taught third and fourth grades in a private school that catered to dyslexic learners. It was here that I learned the Orton Gillingham Approach and was accepted as a member of the Association of Orton Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. Currently I serve on our school's Principal Advisory Committee, am an active member of our Reading Improvement Committee, and support others in my grade level as a Team Lead. I am a big believer in balanced literacy and follow the workshop approach to reading and writing instruction in my classroom. In lesson and unit planning, I follow a backward approach using the “Understanding by Design” method. I'm passionate about creating engaging materials to accompany lessons for my own students and helping to support my community of teachers. I am excited to be part of the Better Lesson initiative - both to share what I know and to learn from so many others!
